FINAL OT 4 - 5
FINAL OT123OTT

Hawks,...or should we say Kane-Hossa-Sharp won this game...along with a Viktor Stalberg OT goal led the Hawks to a sensational 7-2-2 start.  Viktor Stalberg took a pass from deep in his own end by Toews and screamed up the right side and simply out skated the defense, then halted, and streamlined a low line drive to the far end of the net beating  a 6'5" Pekka Rinne for a 5-4 OT win. Now for the REAL story...

The difference between this years team and last year's OMG-we-had-to-get-rid-of-1/2-our-players team, is last year, they never FOUGHT there way to a victory. ALL year long until Jonny went off on a rampage in the locker room 3/4 of the way in the season, they gave up lead after lead, never fought for a victory and barely made it into the playoffs...although it was 97 points. I predicted AT LEAST 109 this year. 1st month of the season comes to an end, and the Hawks have only played 1 game where they laid an egg...the Carolina game.
Other than that, the fought hard against Colorado twice, they fought for a point against Boston, they fought their way to win at home against Dallas, they fought their way against Columbus and Nashville,......this team WANTS to win. Now,...granted, Jamal Mayers and Jonny Toews blew up a their teammates in period 2 against Columbus,....but, the fact is that the team responded. Their stars pick up the slack when needed, and their role players are so much better than last year. SO,......was getting rid of the juggernaut contract of Campbell worth it? OMG YES!!!! This allowed them to sign players like Jamal Mayers who has been nothing short of phenomenal,... Daniel Carcillo who has actually surprised the hockey world that he can restrain himself and show skill,... Steve Montador who has played splendidly on the blue line,... Sami Lepisto, although he's the 8th defenseman, has come in and played well when called upon. The GRIT on this team,...which was absolutely missing last year,...is back this year IN SPADES>>>>>> 1st month in the season and Nick Leddy has already tied his season output in points from last year. He has picked up his game to that "next" level.
The Old man O'Donnell, may have lost a step, but has been a valued player through the 1st month. He'll be valuable in the locker room, as well. Andrew Brunette is showing why he was picked up. He has slow skates but a quick stick and is also a valued person in that locker room. This team is exciting to watch, and I can't wait to see how this team further develops. Michael Frolik and Viktor Stalberg have been awesome this year. I didn't like Stalberg or Bickell or Frolik last year. THIS year? This year is a different story. Frolik-Bolland-Bickell is a monster line. Speed, grit, and add Bickell who can hit as well as he has a wicked wrist shot,... this line is my favorite line to watch. The 2011-12 Hawks are sensational this year to a 7-2-2 start.
