Hawks rebound,...nicely.

A day after the Hawks looked like they were asleep in the 3-0 loss to Carolina, the Hawks rebounded to beat Columbus at home 5-2. Ray Emery was in net (and didn't let up those softies), and Dan Carcillo was suspended for 2 games (more for previous reputation than for the occurrence of boarding). John Scott and Sami Lepisto played as OD got the day off. The Hawks didn't score on the powerplay...still, but had two goals disallowed during the powerplays, (3 total.....plus 1 for Columbus...weird game with 4 disallows).
They may be snapping out of it soon.

Kaner and his Spinorama help Hawks win

Whenever we think of the patented Spin-o-rama move, there is ONLY one hockey player that comes to mind... Denis Savard. He has had many conversations with Patrick Kane on HOW to use it and WHEN to use it. Tonight,...it was a success. He took a cross ice pass from Hossa....he went up ice pulled in his defender in with a spin-o-rama (while keeping his eyes up...he spotted Hossa rushing in) and Kane made a blind pass to a wide open Marian Hossa who simply tucked it in the net. Give Daniel Carcillo some credit too. He Pulled in a defender to the strong side of the net as the cross pass from Kane went behind him to a wide open Hossa.
Oh,...finally the Hawks (who did practice some shoot out goals) finally won on a shoot out 2-1. Toews (who was previously 0-2 and is normally quite strong in shoot outs) went top shelf as opposed to his patented 5 hole move,...and Kane who normally goes backhand, had to worry about Hillar who instead of a glove, had a blocker,...so he went 5 hole for the win.
The Hawks only gave up 1 goal on 6 powerplays. Crawford was dynamite!!! The Hawks have reeled in points in all but their opening night game. 5-1-2 is their record after 8 games and are now in first place in the Central Division. Hawks 3 Ducks 2. Forwards & Defensemen

O.T. loss to the 'Lanche,... Saad player of the week

Well, Finally we get to see the Ole Q. Mixing and matching lines. Carcillo moving to the 4th line to give Mayers and Kruger a truly physical edge and Stalberg moved up with Toews and Brunette. Sharp, Kane, Hossa line became the best line by proxy. Putting Stalberg on the line with Toews really makes up for the lack of speed with Bruno at wing...good move.  The Hawks looked completely unimpressive on the defensive end. O'Donnell looked ...OLD. What was nice about the Hawks loss (if you can ever come away with positives) is the Hawks AGAIN did not fold. They came from behind again. This Hawks team is enjoyable to watch. They fix a few things and they'll be doing well. Not a bad first seven games. Only 1 game they didn't come away with points. 4-1-2.
And.....for other news. How about Brandon Saad. Here's a post from http://blackhawks.nhl.com

Brandon Saad named OHL Player of the Week

Monday, 10.24.2011 / 2:49 PM / News
By Ontario Hockey League Press Release
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Brandon Saad of the Saginaw Spirit is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 23 after leading the league with 10 points in three games scoring an impressive six goals with four assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-2.
The week was filled with personal-bests for Saad who led the Spirit to three straight wins on the road beginning Thursday night with a 5-2 win over the Brampton Battalion.  Saad recorded his first career five-point and four-goal game in the contest putting the Spirit on the board with a natural hat-trick to start the game at 14:29 of the first period on the power play, followed by two second period goals including one shorthanded marker which held as the game-winner.  His fourth goal also came on the power play in the third period and he was named first star of the game.  Saad then claimed second star honours on Saturday night in Peterborough scoring a goal in the 9-1 win over the Petes.  He finished the week with a four-point game on Sunday night against the Oshawa Generals as first star of a 7-6 win where he tallied a goal along with a career-high three assists.
Saad, who will celebrate his 19th birthday on October 27, is from Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and playing in his second OHL season with the Spirit.  Selected 43rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad played two NHL games this season before returning to the Spirit where he has recorded 13 points in five games.
Also considered for the award this week was Nick Cousins of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Matt Rupert of the London Knights who each scored four goals and two assists for six points in three games for their respective clubs.  In goal, Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs won two games including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.50 and a save percentage of .984.

And to wrap things up.

Hit The Ice....Blackhawks 2011-12

Chicago Blackhawks 2011-12 Home Intro "Hit The Ice"

Amazingly done. I have loved these videos from the past 4 seasons. So,...enjoy this years video in HD.

1st line and Crawford break 'Lanche streak at 5

The Avalanche had a 5 game streak snapped by the Chicago Blackhawks. If it wasn't for a splendid effort in goal by  Semyon Varlamov, the Hawks may have scored 5 or 6. Crawford held his own and could have easily been named a star in the game. As Hossa stated, "Tonight, he (Crawford) stole the game for us. He made some really key saves".
It's great to have a goalie win. There are usually about 7-10 goalie wins all season. This was one of them.
So, tonight Corey Crawford and his 31 saves held on to do what the Hawks couldn't do last year when they saw Colorado early in the season,....hold on for a WIN.

The Hawks got their scoring from Jonathon Toews(3rd) and Patrick Sharp(2nd) before Marian Hossa put in a 6 on 4 shorthanded -emptynet goal (3rd) to win 3-1. Hawks play this same team two days from now in the UC. It should be a pretty raucous sold out crowd. Hawks presently stand at 4-1-1 this early season.

Hawks 5-2 over Coyotes

Blackhawks just play on another level when Marian Hossa is in the lineup.
Eventhough Hoss-the-boss was concerned about his health, he shortened
the shifts and made it work...without aggravating the injury.
The scorers included: Hossa, Toews, Bolland (shorthanded), Mayers and Bickell.
So, every single line contributed. Hawks gave up the lead twice to only recapture the lead shortly.
That is the difference between this year and last year. Last year they would lay down and die,...not this year.
There is a "true grit" to this team and it's felt all the way through the line up.
Next game.....@ Colorado (Thursday) followed up by a home-n-home with the same Avalanche team.
Olesz, Scott and Lepisto were healthy scratches.
