Sometimes, it's hard to write about your favorite team when they're on a losing streak,.....or worse yet, if they are just a horrific team. Luckily, my favorite teams "losing streak" ended at 3. Their woeful ways on the power play FINALLY came to an end. Before Thursday against Columbus, the Hawks had the 30th ranked power play. Okay, I said before that the year the Hawks won the Cup they didn't do that well on 5-3's,...and that was true. They couldn't buy a goal. Last year the Hawks were respectable on the powerplay, but barely made the playoffs. After today,...the Hawks are a strong 10-4-3, lead the Central division and still have a woeful powerplay......... But, the Hawks did FINALLY score 2 powerplay goals against the Blue Jackets and 1 goal against the Flames. One change they made on powerplay that really has become apparent that it's working....Steve Montador at point. It's working!!!! It was obvious the Hawks needed more than simply saying that some go in and some don't. They needed a change. Their penalty kill is the next thing they need to work on. Giving up 5 power play goals against the Canucks showed that weakness.
So, as the Hawks struggle their way to first place,...they will fine tune their team and their efforts.
