I did a quick browse of this years Free Agent list and my mouth dropped.
Of course, first, as always, I checked out who from the Hawks is left unsigned...
Just Jamal Mayers (who the Hawks have made quite clear there is no interest), but after that, the Hawks
have only minor leaguers (Henrik Karlsson, Alec Richards, Joe Lavin and Maxime Sauve). The NHL still shows that the Hawks have yet to sign Shawn Lalonde, but he signed to play in Germany, so I am not putting him on this list.
After I did that, I looked at some names that are still unsigned and I couldn't believe it.
ANAHEIM: Radek Dvorak, Matthew Lombardi, Toni Lydman (really?)
BOSTON: Jay Pandolfo, Wade Redden,
BUFFALO: Cody Hodgson (he'll get signed...he's too good).
CALGARY: Anton Babchuk
CAROLINA: Marc-Andre Bergeron, Chad LaRose
COLORADO: Milan Hejduk (is he going to retire?)
COLUMBUS: Adrian Aucoin, Michael Leighton, Vaclav Prospal
DALLAS: (no surprises here)
DETROIT: Damien Brunner (really? Not yet?), Daniel Cleary, Ian White. (wow!)
EDMONTON: Darcy Hordichuk
FLORIDA: Jose Theodore, Petter Mueller
LOS ANGELES: Anthony Stewart
MINNESOTA: (no surprises here)
MONTREAL: Colby Armstrong, Jeff Halpern
NASHVILLE: Chris Mason
NEW JERSEY: Alexei Ponikarovsky
NEW YORK Isles: Brad Boyes, Marty Reasoner, Tim Thomas (retired?)
NEW YORK Rng: Derek Stepan (really?), Roman Hamrlik, Nick Palmieri
OTTAWA: Guillaume Latendresse
PHILADELPHIA: Brian Boucher, Ruslan Fedotenko, Kent Huskins, Mike Knuble
PHOENIX: Mikkel Boedker, Brett Hextall
PITTSBURGH: Brenden Morrow (super wow!)
ST. LOUIS: Jamie Langenbrunner, Scott Nichol
SAN JOSE: (no surprises here)
TAMPA BAY: Mathieu Garon
TORONTO: Cody Fransen
VANCOUVER: Manny Malhotra, Mason Raymond, Jim Vandermeer
WASHINGTON: Marcus Johansson, Tom Poti, Wojtek Wolski (really?)
WINNIPEG: Alexander Murnistrov, Ron Hainsey, Kyle Wellwood
Now, there are some names on here that will easily find a team (most being their 2012-13 team). But when the Hawks solidified their team way back in July, this was a very strong action to show the players that they "care about the team"...These little things make a "happy locker room".
I can't wait to see the updated list a few weeks from now.
